Tug O War Participants 

 

Egypt: Ancient Egyptians would play a ropeless Tug O War. Three young men line up on either side of a drawn line and first team to pull all their opponents over win.

 

World Games: Two teams of eight whose total weight must not exceed a maximum weight for the class align themselvs at either end of a rope with a dividing center line. 

 

Fun Facts 

  • For centuries villages in Korea used Tug of War to solve disputes.

  • In ancient greece Tug of War was used as a physical exercise to train for other sports. 

  • In medieval Europe, Viking warriors pulled animal skins over open pits of fire testing their strengh and endurance before they went to battle. 

  • On British naval ships officers would force their crew to challage each other in Tug O War with ropes in order to keep his men fit.
